The developers of Ethereum aim to transition the long-awaited Pectra update to the mainnet on May 7. Earlier predictions suggested the update could take place in the last week of April, but the new date indicates a slight delay. The final decision was made during a meeting of core developers held on Thursday, following successful tests on the Hoodi test network.

The core developers of Ethereum decided that the Pectra update will move to the mainnet on May 7. In the routine developer meeting held on Thursday, key figures from the network convened to thoroughly discuss the testing process and scheduling. Following this meeting, it was announced that Pectra is now ready to transition to the mainnet due to the success achieved on the Hoodi test network.

In fact, a previous meeting held in March had suggested that if the test network process went smoothly, the update could be implemented within 30 days. However, the shift of the update from the end of April to early May has granted both client teams and network participants a little more preparation time. Like Ethereum’s last major software update, Dencun, Pectra can also experience timing flexibility as potential technical issues may lead to shifts in scheduling.
Comprehensive Changes with 11 EIPs Introduced
The Pectra update brings significant technical changes to the Ethereum network. A total of 11 Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) will be implemented with this update. These EIPs aim to elevate both user experience and network efficiency, particularly in areas such as wallet usage and account abstraction.
For instance, with EIP-7702, the goal is to make wallets more user-friendly, while EIP-7251 will increase the maximum staking limit for validators from 32 ETH to 2,048 ETH. This change will provide greater flexibility within the staking structure. Additionally, EIP-7691 will enhance rollup scalability by increasing the maximum number of blobs. These changes seem poised to contribute to making the Ethereum network faster and more efficient.
Making the network more user-friendly is crucial, especially for new participants and developers. The structural changes brought by Pectra are part of the long-term scalability and usability plans of the altcoin king.
