Tether, a major player in the cryptocurrency market, has revealed an innovative artificial intelligence development kit (SDK) that puts a strong emphasis on user privacy. Paolo Ardoino, the CEO of Tether, showcased this groundbreaking technology on October 26 at the Plan ₿ event in Lugano, Switzerland. Named “Local AI,” this kit allows code to be executed on a variety of devices, ranging from inexpensive phones to high-end smartphones, laptops, and powerful systems equipped with H100 processors. Additionally, this technology can be utilized across a wide range of devices, including smart refrigerators and automotive entertainment systems.

Flexible and Modular Structure
Tether’s Local AI SDK distinguishes itself as a technology designed to safeguard users’ privacy rights. Utilizing peer-to-peer (P2P) data structures, the SDK securely shares weight data and fine-tuning information for AI models across devices.
One of the key advantages of this modular structure, compatible with different models like Marian and Llama, is its ability to function across diverse devices and operate locally. Tether has also announced that the SDK will be released as open-source after undergoing thorough testing.
According to Ardoino, the kit enables individuals to perform operations entirely on their device without sharing any personal data with third parties. During the presentation, an example application was demonstrated: a completely local and privacy-focused translation app.
Privacy-Centric Approach
Tether’s innovation aims to meet the growing demand for user privacy in the cryptocurrency sphere. Ardoino emphasized that the foundations of Local AI were derived from the open-source project “holepunchto/bare,” which plays a crucial role in the SDK’s structure. This statement demonstrates Tether’s dedication to privacy and innovation.
Tether’s Local AI technology is likely to attract users who prioritize privacy. The eventual release of the kit as open-source will make this technology accessible to a wider audience and developers, extending an invitation to communities interested in AI and privacy-focused technologies.
